How To Cook Spaghetti Squash ?

Spaghetti squash gets its name from its texture. When you cook the squash, the inside part of the vegetable becomes stringy with a pasta-type of appearance. Spaghetti squash is good for people who suffer from diabetes. It is also good for those who are on a low carbohydrate diet.

Here are a few tips to cook spaghetti squash the easiest way.

  • Before you cook the squash, decide if you want to cut it before or after you cook it. You will need to cut it along the length of the vegetable, and this could become cumbersome, since each spaghetti squash is about 8 or 9 inches in length. Though it is easier to cut the squash when it is cooked, it takes a longer time to cook when you cook it whole.
  • Grime will be on spaghetti squash. So, remember to scrub the squash well. Even though you will be eating only the fleshy part of the squash, it is important that you remove all grime and dirt completely.
  • Preheat your oven to about 375 degrees. Cut the squash if you have decided to cook it in this way and remove all the seeds with the help of a tablespoon. If you want to cook the squash as a whole, remember to prick it all over with a fork.
  • Put the spaghetti squash into a baking dish and leave in the oven for about an hour. Keep piercing it with a fork now and then to check whether it is tender.

An alternative way to cook spaghetti squash is to place them in a vessel of boiling water for 20 minutes. Check with fork if done and remove it to let it cool.

Once it is cool, remove all the flesh of the squash. Your squash will be like orange spaghetti strands. Now you can add all the seasonings, herbs and spices as per your to make a dish that you like.
