Growing Kaffir Lime Trees

Kaffir lime is a citrus fruit and it is normally cultivated in Asia. It is also used for cooking widely in Asian cuisines. It is common feature in several Thai dishes. Growing Kaffir lime trees can be easy or difficult, depending on the weather conditions. You can grow the tree from a seed, and it can be grown either indoors or outdoors.

It grows well under direct sun so you if have an option growing it outdoors, then you should choose that first. Also, there are readymade Kaffir lime trees that are sold by several nurseries. Get a tree that is at least one year old so that it will bloom and bear fruits faster.

The lime tree can grow up to five feet tall. So, make sure you get a wide mouthed pot that is big enough. A plastic or foam pot is ideal because it will retain the moisture, but ensure that excess water is drained out through the drainage hole. Fill the pot with general purpose soil, and mix it with manure or compost. After you put the plant in, add a top layer of mulch. The mulch helps to retaining moisture more effectively. Water the plant well after planting it. The thumb rule is that the plant should get plenty of water and light to grow. When the weather is fine, leave the plant container outdoors during the day.

One benefit of growing the lime plant in a container is that you can check the moisture level in soil frequently and make sure that it does not turn dry. Kaffir lime tree is the least prone to leaf infections. So, you need not use much of pesticides.
