Germination Of Kaffir Lime Tree Seeds

The leaves of Kaffir limes are widely used in Asian cooking. It offers a unique flavor that is rich in taste and also smell. The Kaffir lime tree is actually a dwarf lime tree, and does not grow taller than five feet. The pungent odor from the tree is so strong that this species does not even get bothered by insects and pests.

It can be grown any time during the year, and is suited for both indoor and outdoor environments. However, if you are growing it indoors, then make sure that the container has enough drainage.

Kaffir lime trees can be grown from a seed but it is more difficult. Propagating the tree is much easier task.

This specific species of lime tree is quite tolerant, but to an extent. It does need ideal conditions to grow. If you have planted the seed in a container, then place it under direct sun until the seed germinates. The problem is that this tree is that it is prone to root rot, and that is why you have to make sure that the container has good amount of drainage. In case it is winter time, then keep the container by a sunny window.

The seed of the Kaffir lime tree should be put around one to one and a half inch deep in the soil. In one single container, you should have only one seed. Kaffir lime tree seeds take about 15 days time to germinate. They need the perfect and constant temperature of 60 degrees Fahrenheit to germinate. Once the tree grows, it becomes easy to propagate it using the branches. You will need to prune the leaves often.
