Garlic belongs to the same family as onions and leeks. Its sections are called cloves. Garlic has many health benefits. Though its pungent smell prevents many from consuming it, garlic is actually very good for health.

Garlic is good for the heart, the immune system, and is a powerful antioxidant. Allicin, found in garlic, is the active compound responsible for its health giving properties. Allicin is a powerful antibiotic, many times more powerful than penicillin. Regular consumption of garlic is something that almost all doctors recommend. Garlic also contains germanium. This is a strong anti-cancer agent.

Besides, garlic helps regulate blood pressure by thinning the blood and relaxing the arteries. It helps to regulate blood sugar levels as well. It is very good in expelling parasites such as pin worms from the human body. It also has protein, potassium, vitamins, calcium, zinc, and other minerals. It helps to strengthen the body’s defenses against allergies. However, some people are allergic to garlic.

Garlic also decreases platelet aggregation in the blood. It lowers triglycerides and bad cholesterol while increasing the good cholesterol in the blood. It also reduces the risk of stroke. It also reduces the amount of free radicals in the bloodstream. Garlic also promotes weight control.
