Growing-Garden-Peas      There are several types of garden pea plants. Originally peas were cooked with the tender tops, but now the peas are removed from their shells and used. Some of the varieties of peas you get are shelled peas, snow peas, sugar pod peas and snap peas. Peas need rather cool weather to grow, and if the weather is conducive for growth, peas can grow throughout the year. There is no specific season for harvest. That is one of the reasons why peas are available right round the year. More..

Planting Peas And Green Beans In A Container Garden

Peas and green beans can be grown in the garden or a container. In a container, it becomes easier to maintain the plants and you can keep replacing them. Also, peas and green beans are easy to grow. Both plants need room upwards to grow as they tend to spread out on the top.

Peas are very slow growing plants, and the germination takes the maximum amount of time in the growth cycle. Peas first start blooming into delicate flowers. These flowers look very pretty and can add value to your home container garden.

In order to start growing peas and green beans, first fill your container with general purpose soil. Fertilize the soil well with manure or compost.

A home based container should have a good amount of drainage. The seeds should be planted one inch deep into the soil. And, each seed should be spaced five inches apart. Also put some trellis in the container so that the plants have the necessary support when they are growing. The plants will start climbing up when they begin growing.

The plants need about eight hours of sunlight per day. Once you plant the seedlings you will see the plants in 21 days. While watering, makes sure you dampen the soil well. After the plants starts growing, water them thoroughly. Once the plants reach the minimum height, feed them with fertilizers. Apply water to the base of the plant so that the leaves remain dry. If the leaves become wet, they will develop mildew. When you are about to harvest the peas and green beans, do so before watering the plants.
