What Is The Nutritional Value Of A Cucumber ?

Cucumber is not only nutritious, it is also low in calories. In fact, dieters should consume cucumbers if they are serious about reducing their calorie intake. However, besides being used as a food, cucumber is also used as a beauty aid by women and men. When applied on the skin, cucumber juice enhances the appearance of the skin, and cucumber slices when applied on the eyes, help to reduce puffiness.

Coming to the nutritional value of a cucumber. If cucumber is part of your diet, a medium-sized cucumber will give you 2 percent of your calcium and iron requirement, 10 percent of Vitamin C, 2 percent of Vitamin A, 45 kilocalories of energy, 2 grams of fiber, and 2 grams of protein. This is if the cucumber is a part of 2000 calorie diet.

If you happen to consume around 100 grams of cucumber, you will get 3.63 grams of carbohydrates, 1.67 grams of natural sugar, 0.11 grams of fat, 0.65 grams of protein, 0.5 grams of fiber and 12 kilocalories of energy. Cucumber does not contain any cholesterol but it is rich in vitamins. Hundred grams of cucumber will give you 2.8 mg of vitamin C, 0.027 mg of vitamin B1, 0.033 mg of vitamin B2, 0.098 mg of vitamin B3, 0.259 mg of vitamin B5, 0.040 mg of vitamin B6 and 7 mcg of vitamin B9.

Other nutritional value of a cucumber rests in its mineral content. It is replete with calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and zinc.

In order to get the vitamin and minerals from the cucumber, it is best to consume it in raw form. Also, skin the cucumber just before eating so that you preserve the nutrients. Cooking or stewing the fruit will destroy the vitamins and minerals.
