Here is a simple way how to prepare Brussels sprouts so that your family and children enjoy a healthy and tasty vegetable dish.
Wash and clean the Brussels sprouts in cold water. Cut off the base and the remaining stem. Remove the core from the Brussels sprouts and discard any loosened leaves or leaves that are yellowing. You can identify the core by its color yellow and hard texture. It is this core that is responsible for the unpleasant taste associated with Brussels sprouts.
Use a sharp knife to cut the sprouts into two halves and then thinly slice each half. Then separate the cut slices into the shreds. This is necessary for larger Brussels sprouts, especially if you are going to boil or steam them. However, smaller sprouts can be kept uncut. This preparation seems too difficult and labor-intensive, but in reality it really does not take that much time.
The result is well worth it because you can taste slightly nutty and mouth watering Brussels sprouts. In addition to that, Brussels sprouts can be cut and prepared two to three days in advance. So that when it comes to the actual cooking, you do not waste too much time in all the washing and slicing.
After you boil or steam the sprouts, you can flavor them with your favorite sauce. Or add some Cheddar cheese and put it into the oven until the cheese melts. And there you have a delicious and mouthwatering dish. You can also use the boiled or steamed Brussels sprouts in a salad or slaw.
