How To Steam Broccoli Without A Steamer ?
Eating steamed broccoli is quite healthy. Steaming vegetables is healthier than boiling them. It helps to preserve all the minerals, nutrients and vitamins. It also adds taste to it. In addition, steaming takes just a few minutes when compared to boiling. |
If you do not have a steamer, you need not worry. You can use ordinary utensils in your kitchen to steam broccoli to perfection. Remember, steaming enhances taste and keeps all the nutrients in tact.
Take a large-mouth pot, add sufficient water and place it on the fire to boil. Next take the broccoli head and cut into florets in the desired size. Wash the florets thoroughly and then place them in a perforated container that fits on top of the pot of water.
Once the water starts bubbling, place the perforated container with the broccoli on the pot and cover it with a lid. Wait until the broccoli is steamed, which should be around 5 minutes approximately.
You can use this method of steaming also when you are cooking rice. Just place the container on the bubbling rice, and you will have 2 dishes cooked in a jiffy.
You can also steam broccoli in a microwave. Cut the broccoli into desired size and place in a container that can be used in the microwave oven. Add a tablespoon of water, cover the dish. Make sure that the lid is tightly in place. Now run the microwave for around 5 to 6 minutes on medium heat. Viola! Remove the lid and see for yourself how you managed to steam broccoli without using a steamer.
