How To Harvest Broccoli ?

The most accepted garden vegetable plant you can ever harvest is broccoli. It has high nutritional value and also tastes delicious. If you want to harvest broccoli, then plant it in cool and moist part of your vegetable patch. It can be successfully harvested in a place where summer arrives early.

Certain gardeners maintain that it can also be harvested as a two-season crop, both in spring as well as in fall. It is also recommended to harvest broccoli when the moon is growing in size.

Broccoli can grow well in sunny region. In cooler months, minimal sun can also support its growth well. If you live in a cool area, then you can grow it for almost 8 months of the year. It results in good supply of broccoli practically all year round. You can plant the first patch in mid-summer and succeeding patch after 6 to 8 weeks. It can be continued until the end of winter.

For the proper growth, prepare the soil 3 weeks before by adding rich composted material and manure. Always choose fresh seed for planting. Old seeds result in slow growth. After sowing the seeds in the soil, make sure that you put some fertilizer around each sown seed.

Usually broccoli grows without contracting any infection, but make sure you protect the sprouting plant with the help of large leaves. Partially tie the leaves around the flower to protect it against sudden weather change. Nevertheless, broccoli can be attacked by snails and slugs. So, to protect the heads, use an organic insecticide to protect from pest attacks.

Harvest the broccoli plant at the right time so that it does not grow and become tough. Pick the flower heads when they are fresh, tender and succulent. After harvesting the main flower head, you will observe the smaller buds appearing around the sides. These too can be harvested shortly.
