How To Grow Broccoli Sprouts ?


Broccoli is highly nutritious food. It contains good proportion about vitamin A and vitamin C. It contains phylochemicals called sulforaphane, which prevents the occurrence of cancer. It is also a good food for the weight watchers as it contains only 28 calories per serving.

Broccoli sprouts provide enzymes, amino acids, protein, fiber and essential fatty acids. All these are necessary to maintain good health. It is alkaline-based. So, it helps to reinforce and uphold our immune system. After the seeds sprout, vitamins and minerals increase. It rises by 100-1000 per cent. Sprouting is a natural process. There are no chemical sprays or additives utilized to make a broccoli seed sprout and grow into a mature plant.

Broccoli sprouts is very easy to produce. You do not require soil at all. You require a plastic container with lid or a jar enclosed with fine material. Broccoli sprouts grow well in water and cool temperature. The duration between planting the seeds and harvesting the sprouts is very short. It takes just around 3-7 days. However, the growing duration depends on the kind of broccoli sprouts you are sprouting.

For better growth, place the broccoli sprouts container out of direct sunlight. Rinse the broccoli sprouts every morning and evening. Gently rotate the sprouts container so that the seeds spread out properly. When the seeds sprout, clean and stock up them in a container for use in the next few days. Remember, the sprouts will last for approximately 5 to 7 days.

Before starting next crop of sprouts, wash the container well.
