How To Freeze Broccoli ?


In the summer season, one can benefit from broccoli in a few ways. One of them is to freeze broccoli for use in the winter when vegetables are scarce. There exists a systematic process to freeze broccoli correctly. Get good quality freezer bags for the broccoli. You also need waxed paper and some baking sheet that can fit in your freezer.

Therefore, if you want to know how to freeze broccoli, make sure you have the broccoli, freezer bags, a large baking sheet, paper towels, a large cooking pan and a knife handy.

Broccoli is a fine vegetable to freeze. Among broccoli, the one with no flowers and tender stalk is the finest for freezing. Before freezing it, make sure that you wash broccoli thoroughly and properly. Remove all the sandy and rough particles. Tie it into bundles with aluminum string or store it in a freezer bags. However, make sure that before freezing the broccoli, you blanch it for approximately 3 minutes and then plunge it into ice-cold water for another 3 minutes.

Then place the broccoli on the baking sheet and make sure that the florets do not touch each other. It will help you to freeze them completely. Finally keep the baking sheet in the freezer for approximately 2-3 hrs to freeze them completely. Then place them in the freezer bags. If you do not want to open this bag for some time, then close the bags and remove all the air. It will prevent the formation of ice crystals inside the bags. You can use either freezer packs or plastic containers to store the broccoli in your freezer.
