What Vitamins Are In Beets ?

Beets have always been a vegetable most of us stay away from, but did you know the amount of vitamins that are present in beets? There are different varieties of beets, ranging from red to white, yellow and striped. And though beets are sweet, this sweetness has nothing to do with increasing your calorie intake.

Beets are rich in minerals and vitamins. They provide the body health by supplementing vitamins that are inadequate in our body. Beets have Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C and Vitamin K.

Vitamin A is an antioxidant which is useful in reducing wrinkles and premature aging. It is also useful by making the body utilize the protein stored in the body. Vitamin B6 is the most important for bodily functions than any other nutrient. And, the nervous system requires Vitamin B6 to function in the right manner. Vitamin C is important to the body to make use of the folate that is also found in beets. Vitamin B2 is important for the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Vitamin B1 is important for all the cardiovascular functions of the body; and Vitamin K is necessary for cardiovascular health, bone health and other main functions of the body.

Beets also contain beta-carotene, calcium, folate, iron, magnesium, manganese, and potassium. Beets are a good source of anthocyanins, which help in the protection and repair of the DNA of your body. And, beets also have a high content of fiber and carbohydrates. For people who have a deficiency in magnesium, which can lead to heart ailments, beets are a very good source of the supplement.
