Baby corn is a miniature corn, and is also known as Chinese corn. They are much smaller in size compared to the regular corn. They also grow on stems. Baby corn is very tasty to eat, and can be used in several types of cuisines and meal preparations. People across the world have their own recipes to make with baby corn. Baby corn is also good for health. The health and nutritional values of corn are high and beneficial.

A baby corn is sweet to taste and looks yellow in appearance. It is medium sized and has tiny corn seeds on them. One ear of baby corn has 77 calories, the protein is about 2.9 grams, carbohydrates are about 17 grams and the total fat content is about 1 gram.

Some of the popular varieties of baby corn sold in the market are the white corn and yellow corn. These are also called the country gentleman and the golden bantam. These are mostly used in the Chinese cuisine when making noodles, rice and soups. Thai cuisine also uses quite a bit if baby corn. Some Indian dishes have also incorporated the usage of baby corn. Pop corn cannot be made from baby corn.

Usually the stock of the corn is also consumed. In other corns, the seeds are separated from the stick and then used. However, baby corn is used as a whole and the stock or seeds cannot be separated. Baby corn soaked in vinegar or with chilies makes ideal pickles and can be consumed raw after preserving it for a while.
