The Best Area In The US For Growing Vegetables

As large as the United States is, vegetables and fruits are grown in nearly every region and state. However, this said, there are some areas that are more fertile than others. So, which could be the best area in the US for growing vegetables? The best area is considered to be the Midwest.

Twelve states form the Midwest region and these states include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

The Midwest is lovingly known as the "breadbasket" of the United States because of its highly fertile soil. Farmers in this region grow and harvest many different types of vegetables and cereals. One of the most popular vegetables that is grown in the Midwest is corn.

Corn is an important vegetable in nation's diet and it is estimated that the amount of corn grown annually in the Midwest is more that the entire nation's wheat, rice and other grains production put together.

Although the Midwest is the best area in the US for growing vegetables, of late it is the state of California that is getting a lot of attention. When it comes to the value of production, California is the leading state in terms of agriculture in the country. Today, California is the largest agricultural producer and the state grows more than half value of the fruits, nuts and vegetables grown in the US. This is despite the fact that the state does not receive any subsidies that go to farmers who are growing corn, wheat, soybean, cotton and rice.
