The Indoor Culinary Herb Garden
Having an indoor culinary herb garden can be a great hobby and an interesting thing to do also. Using fresh herbs in your food adds that extra flavor to the food and makes it very tasty. Fresh herbs have a lasting smell than dried herbs. Herbs are plants that can be grown very easily without putting in too much effort. |
Just plan to grow a few herbs like mint, parsley, cilantro, ginger and thyme. You can also choose to grow mustard if you want. All these plants grow easily in mild weathers and all that they need is plenty of sunlight. You can leave the pots with the herb plants on the window sill also if it is sunny there. Herbs need a good drainage in order to grow well.
Have a separate spot which receives direct sunlight and keep the herb plants there. Most herb plants grow small and a very few them grow to medium height. So they can be maintained easily. However, when having an indoor garden, do remember to use the chemical fertilizers or feed. If you use an organic one, it can start smelling. Having your kitchen or indoors smell is not a good idea and it can be very discouraging for you to have that garden.
During winters try to keep the herb plants outdoors whenever there is sunlight and the weather is fine. If it is likely to snow or if the temperatures are going to drop, then move the plants indoors. The herb plants can tolerate some amount of cold weather.
