If you are planning to buy fresh herbs in the farmers' market, then you should also learn to identify them. Some of the herbs are very easy to identify a one quick look at them you can tell the name of the herb. However, not all herbs are like that and most of them resemble the greens that you would buy. Also in a farmers market the herbs are not clearly labeled.
In order to identify the culinary herbs, start seeing their pictures on the internet and identify them. One of the easier ways of recognizing an herb is by their unique smell. When you hold the bunch of herbs close and smell it, you can smell the herb clearly. You can tell whether it is mint, parsley or rosemary. Dill also has a strong smell of its own and it resembles grass. It has thin needle like leaves. Cilantro and parsley are a lot alike and they resemble each other. However, cilantro has much thicker stems and parsley has smaller and thinner stems. That is the only way you can tell the difference. Herbs like ginger are easily identifiable.
