Most eclectic cuisines use Bay leaves in their preparation. Bay leaves are also known as laurel leaves or sweet laurel. Even the Greeks use it extensively. Bay leaf is often grouped under the category of herbs and spices. All spices are known to have good minerals and vitamins and several curative properties.
Bay leaves are known to be a rich source of Vitamin A and Vitamin C. They also have iron and manganese. Calcium and potassium are present in very little quantities. It has anti oxidative properties which are helpful in killing the free radicals found in the body. Though people do not eat the Bay leaves directly, one can always add the leaves to rice preparation or food that they cook so that the minerals and vitamins get added to the food while cooking. Eating Bay leaves even after being cooked is not a good idea because it is very hard to chew and not easily digested. The best way to consume the goodness in the Bay leaf is to cook it along with rice. You could season the Bay leaf with some oil and then add rice and water. Even cloves and cinnamon sticks go well with Bay leaves as a good combination.
