The Bay tree actually belongs to the Asia Minor region. However, it soon spread to the Mediterranean region and several other countries. People who cook rice also use Bay leaf occasionally to flavor the rice. According to a Greek legend, Delphi, the oracle, chewed Bay leaves so that her visionary trances were clearer. In Greece, it was common for emperors, heroes and people of higher class to wear wreaths people wore different kinds of wreaths like some were made out of olive branches and some out of bay leaves. The wreaths have a special place in Greek mythology. In ancient days, people wore wreaths for different reasons like to ward of trouble or ill will and some for protection. They attached the prominence of wreath with such things.
Several of the Greek gods are shown wearing wreaths and some wore laurel wreaths while many wore Bay leaves. Bay leaves keep away evil spirits and bad energy according to the Greek mythology. Even today, the Bay leaves have a special prominence in the Greek culture. Bay trees grow everywhere around the world. They need a lot of sunlight to grow. Even the Romans wore wreaths for various purposes including warding of evil. Even the Roman emperors and warriors wore leaves made to of olive branches to show their status.
