Growing Papaya Tree

Growing a papaya tree from the seed is very easy, and it only needs a little bit of effort. The origin of papaya is quite debatable. While some people claim it is from India, others claim that the papaya originated in South America.

However, it is a semi tropical or sub tropical fruit. It also grows wild in the forests. One of the main things you need to grow a papaya tree in a frost free climate, ample sunlight, good soil conditions and water. Papaya trees also grow very fast. They become really tall, and reach out to get away from the ground. The fruits are located at the top end beneath the leaves. It is somewhat like the coconut trees.

To grow a good papaya tree, buy a nice and ripe papaya that has no rot or infection. Cut it open and you will find a whole bunch of seeds which look like fish eggs. There are ample seeds present in the papaya to grow one whole plantation of papaya. Scrape out the papaya seeds and let them dry out. They should be completely dry without any of the rich mucus attached. Once they are dry, put the seeds into a nice sunny spot in the garden in holes that are at least two inches deep. Do not use pots for papaya as they are not good with transplanting. Anything that changes the environment suddenly for papaya is a danger.

Papaya tree needs good soil to grow and if you do have good soil, then make it rich by mixing organic compost or fertilizer to the soil.
