History Of A Mango

Mango is a native fruit of Southeast Asia, specifically India. In India, it is known as king of fruits. In Southeast Asia, it is not as popular.

However, it remains the most sought after taste among fruits. It is also the most consumed fruit in the world. Mexico happens to be the largest exporter of mangoes.Mango belongs to the same family as cashews and pistachios. Mango was being cultivated for more than six thousand years in parts of India. It was the favorite fruit of the royal class, and several Indian epics describe mango as a royal fruit. There are also several varieties of mangoes. They come in reddish green, bright yellow and orange yellow shades depending on the variety.

The mango is the national fruit of India. In India, they believe that it was found by the sages who were traveling across the country. It is widely found in thick jungles and forests of India even today. Some biologists have explored fossils of mango trees that date back several thousand years. India is also rich with other cousins of mangoes such as pistachios and cashew nuts. The same taste of cashew nuts comes exuberantly in the flesh of the mango fruit.

In countries like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh it is treated as a delicacy. It is also a part of several cultural celebrations from several hundreds of years ago. Some of the ancient paintings in temples of India depict the mango tree, the mango fruit and the leaves. All these prove as evidences that mango is a historic fruit that was always consumed fondly by people.
