You may be surprised to know that this humble fruit has over 400 varieties. This fruit is believed to be the first one cultivated by man. The world’s largest production of bananas takes place in India. But bananas were found first in Malaysia. Today, it is produced in around 170 countries. It is one of the most popular fruits throughout the world. An average American can consume around 25 pounds of bananas annually.  Tropical climates are best for the growth of bananas.

Though it is a well known fact that bananas are very good for health, everyone may not be aware of all the nutritive qualities the fruit has. Bananas are rich in potassium, fiber and Vitamin C. A banana is sodium-free and also cholesterol-free. Bananas also contain Vitamin B6, which is helpful in proper functioning of the central nervous system. Banana is one of the fruits which has plenty of carbohydrates.

Since it has a high level of potassium, it can be very helpful in curing a hangover. The banana can also be used to cure heartburns as the fruit is said to contain natural antacids. It can also help increase hemoglobin levels, and is very beneficial for anemic patients.
