Recipes Using Dried Apricot


Dried apricots are used for making not only desserts, but also main entrees. As they are dehydrated, they stay for a longer period of time. Two main varieties of dried apricots are sold in the United States. One is from Turkey and the other from California. California apricots are tangy in taste and orange in color. Apricots are used in various dishes and they lend a distinct flavor in whichever it is used.

You can use this recipe during Thanksgiving or Christmas season.

Dried Apricot syrup
1 cup of dried apricots
1.5 cup water
1 cup celery, chopped
1/4 cup walnuts, chopped 
12 number of sliced bread cut into cubes

Boil the apricots in a saucepan along with the water. Just bring the water to boil and switch off the stove. Let the water stand for about ten minutes. Then add the celery, nuts and bread to it. Toss the bred mixture slightly so that the ingredients become moist and also end up blending with one another thoroughly. Spoon the mixture into an oil lined baking dish. Bake the mixture for 40 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Remove the cover and keep it open in the oven for the final ten minutes. It will get a brown coloring to it.
Use this dressing along with your baked turkey during Thanksgiving or Christmas. You will be surprised how people will just dig into your turkey because of this wonderful dressing.

Dried apricots and fresh ones are being used by various cultures since 2000 BC. There are several health benefits to be obtained from this fruit. They can be eaten raw, cooked or canned. Apricot has a golden orange color and is rich in texture.

The water from the apricot is extracted without damaging its nutrients before it is dried. Dried apricots also have a longer shelf life.

In every 100 g of serving, apricots have 3604 IU of vitamins A and E. In addition, the serving has 2.66 mg of iron, 32 mg of magnesium, 62.64 gm of carbohydrates, 7.3g fiber and 2.6mg of niacin. Apricots have a very high percentage of Vitamin A and choose a deep colored apricot for more vitamin content. This fruit improves condition like anemia. Pectin and cellulose are found in plenty in dried apricots. They can ease constipation and improve digestion. The high fiber content in apricot is ideal for this. Apricots also help in fighting fevers and improving immunity. They remove toxins from kidneys, heart and stomach. Dried apricots blend very well with honey and can be helpful as a blood purifier. The oil in apricot is helpful in treating several skin disorders.
