History Of The Apple

While having a bite of your juicy apple, have you ever wondered where exactly was this fruit found and how many years back. The history of the apple is very interesting.

In fact, here are some details that will give you more insights into the history of the apple. You can find the mention of apples, both in the Greek as well as Roman mythology. Hence, it is hard to actually determine how early this fruit originated. In fact, during the 1600s and 1700s, apple was so valuable that it used to be traded for land. However, the name of Johnny Appleseed is associated with apples. He was the man who went about planting apple seeds throughout Ohio, Illinois and Indiana. He would dry the apple seeds and pack them in small plastic bags. He would hand these to people who would pass by. He was devoted to the cause of cultivating apples till his death in 1845. Over the years, people began experimenting with seedlings of the apples and created varieties of local apples.

Another such man called Sydney Babson also did the kind of work which Johnny Appleseed did, and thanks to the efforts of people like them, the US can boast of producing 130 billion pounds of apples. The other producers of apples in the world are China, which is the number one producer of apples, Turkey, France, Italy and Iran.

Unaware of the history of the apple fruit, today people consume apples due to its highly nutritive qualities. It helps in lowering the risk of heart disease, controlling weight, and it is rich in fiber and vitamins. Thanks to the efforts of some people in the past, we are blessed with such a beneficial fruit.
