Growing apples is not a Herculean task, but there are a few things to be kept in mind while doing this. The first and foremost thing about apples is they do not self pollinate.

This means that you need to plant more than one apple tree if you want your tree to bear fruit. Ideally, the two trees that are used should be of different species. By doing this, you can be assured of a healthier fruit. The next thing to be kept in mind for growing apples is that if there is excess water in the roots of the apple tree, it can prove harmful. Hence, the soil that you use for growing apples should be well draining. You should place your apple tree at a higher location, if possible, so that the cold air in the spring does not damage it. It should be in such a position where it can receive morning sunlight.

Pruning an apple tree is a very important step towards growing apples. If you prune the top branches of the tree regularly, then it becomes easier for the sunlight to reach the lower branches. This way you can make sure that all the branches and their fruits are saved from infestation.

It is important to feed your apple tree lots of fertilizers and water. If you love your apple tree and take care of it well, then you can be sure getting abundant apples from your apple tree, and who knows your apple tree may live for a 100 years.
