It has been found that apples are being eaten by man for the last 8,500 years. It was the favorite fruit of the Greeks and the Romans. It is a very popular fruit, and an average American may consume about 65 apples per year.

There are about 7,500 varieties of apples that are grown worldwide. They can be found in different colors such as red, yellow, green and orange apples. The height of an average apple tree is around 40 feet.

An apple is a very nutritive fruit. Remember the saying, 'An apple a day keeps the doctor away'? There is truth to it. This fruit is rich in fiber and vitamins. It has many antioxidants which keep the body healthy and strong. Also, it is free from cholesterol, and does not contain any sodium. But to get the maximum benefits of this fruit, it is important to eat it with its skin, without peeling it. This is because the apple peel has lots of fiber and antioxidants which prevent the brain cells from damaging.

Apples are found throughout the year in stores, but their harvesting season is from August to October. An apple tree may take almost 4 years to give out its first fruit. The apple pickers still pick the apple harvest by their hands only. The topmost apple producers of the world are China, Italy, Turkey, Poland and the United States.
