Rose Diseases Treatment

Roses are prone to be susceptible to diseases when the growing season starts. Even if your rose plant makes it through the winter, the summer heat and spring rains will expose it to a number of fungal infections.

These are some common rose diseases and tips on how to control them.

Powdery Mildew: This fungus infection leaves a white powder on the leaves and along the stems. Make sure you do not spray water on the leaves or flowers, since it is moisture which is responsible for causing this infection. Alternately, treat your plant ands soil with lime sulfur before growth starts. Keeping the area clean and free of fallen leaves, weeds and garden debris will also help.

Rust:This is a condition when you will see an orange-colored powder on the underside of leaves, which will gradually spread to other parts of the plant. Keeping the stems, flowers and leaves dry and the general area clean will help in preventing rust. Rust-affected parts must be removed and an organic treatment is advised.

Blackspot:Round black spots on the leaves and stems says your rose plant has been affected by this disease. If not treated, it will kill the plant's foliage, maybe even the plant itself. Remove the infected parts and treat the plant with a chemical or organic product.

Rose Mosaic:While other diseases are caused by fungus, Rose Mosaic is a viral disease, which will cause discolored yellow or green mosaic patterns on the plant. There is only one thing for you to do in this case is to immediately remove the infected plant from your garden, and check with a professional regarding commercial treatments.
