How Does The Orchid Take In Food ?

Orchids will grow with proper care and attention. When growing in the wild, those orchids which grow on the bark of trees do not have the advantage of being supplied by the required minerals through the soil.

When orchids are being grown by us at home, these plants depend on us to supply the nutrients they need to thrive.Orchids growing in nature depend on nutrients washed down by rainwater, bird deposits and decaying leaves. Some grow in mosses, which cover rock escarpments, and these plants share nutrients with the mosses, through which it sends its roots.

Like all other plants, orchids make use of sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and hydrogen into food necessary for energizing the plant. They extract carbon dioxide from the air surrounding them, while water takes care of most of their hydrogen requirements. Then the process of photosynthesis is applied and the carbon dioxide and hydrogen become starches and sugar, which is then used by the plants for growing.

However, when it comes to growing these plants in our baskets, pots or on mounted corks, the orchids depend on us to fertilize and provide them with these nutrients. Almost all fertilizers that we can buy off the shelves contain the key ingredients necessary for healthy plant growth. Some may requite the addition of trace components, which offer some kind of benefit to the plant. It is important to be aware of the specific requirements of these plants and provide them with the ‘growing power’ needed to promote healthy plants and beautiful, long-lasting blooms.
