Tips For Growing Marigold Flowers

Marigolds have always been a gardener’s favorite. They are inexpensive, very easy to care for, and once planted, a marigold plant will continue to bloom throughout the season.

Dried out flowers can be used at cut flowers, and also saved for seeds for using the next season.

Here are some tips for growing marigold flowers.

Marigold plants need full sun. So make sure you put them is a spot in your garden that is exposed to the maximum amount of sunlight during the day. Different types of marigold seeds have specific requirements. Therefore, it is important to consult your local nursery and plant accordingly.

Maintain a distance of 8 to 18 inches in between seedlings, and once you see flowers, fertilize the plants once in every for to six weeks. Proper and regular fertilization is important to have healthy and fully grown plants.

All healthy marigold flowers come with a large number of lush green leaves, and without any dead or brown ones. When it comes to the flowers, marigold flowers are usually golden yellow in color, though there are some plants which will give crimson flowers.

Trim your plants regularly and use some kind of non-harmful weed killer around the plants, since marigolds often fall prey to weeds. Other garden pests like whiteflies and spider mites will prey on your plants if not adequately watered.

All dead or wilting blooms need to be pinched off at the bud. This will help promote new growth. Also, remember to deadhead the flowers, as this will keep the plant productive all through the growing season.
