How To Plant Gladiolus ?

Gladioli are easy to maintain, come in many colors and are a huge hit with gardeners.

Follow these easy growing instructions and let your garden be filled with tall spikes of colorful gladiolus in full bloom, throughout spring and summer. To get started, you need to first select the flower color and variety you wish to go with. Then buy good quality and bruise-free corms. In order to get continuous bloom, plant once every two weeks into midsummer. Next, select a spot where your plants can enjoy plenty of sunshine all through the day. Gladiolus can grow in almost any soil, but ideally you should use moist and well-drained soil that gets a lot of sunlight. So, ensure that the soil has good drainage, and if required, prepare it by adding organic matter.

To plant your gladiolus, you need to dig a 3 to 5 inch hole for each corm, but before that you must ensure that the soil has warmed to anywhere between 45 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit. The corm needs to be placed at the bottom of the hole and then covered with soil. Take some bulb fertilizer and mix it with the soil at the bottom of the hole. Place the larger corms at the deeper end and leave 2 to 4 inches space between corms. The corms must be placed firmly on the soil, with its root side down.

Finally, water the plant well, and you are on your way to having beautiful gladioli all over your garden.
