Interesting Daisy Facts

Daisies are among the most popular of flowers all over the world. Though many U.S grown flowers have seen declining sales in recent times, gerbera daisies and a few others have actually seen increased sales, as per the United States Department of Agriculture.

Here are some interesting daisy facts:

Said to have originated in Central, Western and Northern Europe, daisies are available throughout the year and usually come with sunny yellow centers and pure white petals. The flowers open at dawn attract many small insects. Fortunately though, diseases are a rare phenomenon with these plants, and the flowers are blessed with a long vase life.

These elegant flowers are also available in shades of pink, purple and yellow. Very easy to grow, daisies just need rich and well-drained soil and plenty of sunshine to bloom. The daisy is a perennial and its evergreen leaves form a tuft or rosette at the base.

When placed in fresh water and exposed to the right amount of sunshine, these pretty flowers can last up to several weeks. Daisies go well with almost every other kind of flower when used in floral arrangements. White daisies make excellent fillers and are often used to create a dramatic look alongside other colorful flowers.

Florists love to use lots of yellow and white daisies when making bridal bouquets. Children often use daisies to create daisy chains. Daisies arranged in woven baskets are also very popular. The leaves of these plants are edible, and are used in adding to a healthy bowl of salad.
