Different Types Of Daisies

Daisies belong to the Asteraceae family, which also includes sunflowers and some types of lettuce. In Latin, these flowers are called 'bellis perennis', which means 'everlasting beauty'.

Though daisies look like a smaller version of sunflowers, they are actually much more durable.Popular since the Middle Age, these flowers grow in fields and lawns, and are used for decoration, in cooking and even in the preparation of medicine, since these plants contain many beneficial oils, vitamins and other ingredients considered healthy.

Some popular varieties of daisies are the Shasta daisy and the African daisy. The Swan River daisy is another popular variety, and these one-inch flowers bloom annually, and need to be sown during early spring, either in a hanging basket or a garden.

The Dahlberg daisy is a drought-tolerant kind, and it is not easy to find in nurseries since it is a rare breed. It blooms annually and gives large and brightly colored flowers. The Gerbera daisy is one of the most beautiful daisies, and it is well known for its range of fabulous colors and large size. The Gloriosa daisy is mostly referred to as a wildflower, due to it’s presence in the wild prairies and fields. Also, known as the Black Eyed Susan, the Gloriosa Daisy is a beautiful flower with orange or yellow petals and a black center.

Other popular types of daisies are the Spanish daisy, Lazy daisy, Painted daisy, Paris daisy, Crown daisy, Nippon Oxeye daisy, Giant daisy, Kingfisher daisy, Sunshine daisy, Barberton daisy, Livingstone daisy and Butter daisy.
