The chrysanthemum is said to have been named by the Greek, who called it 'krus anthemon' or the golden flower. Feng Shui practitioners believe it to be symbolic of joy and happiness, while in Japan, this flower has its very own holiday.


Here are some facts about chrysanthemums:

The chrysanthemum is also known as mum or pompon. The botanical name of this plant is chrysanthemum x morifolium or dendranthema x grandiflorum. Grown in Asia, Europe and South Africa, these flowers are available throughout the year.

In China and Japan, the chrysanthemum is held in very high esteem. These flowers are associated with happy emotions like cheerfulness, peace, friendship, optimism, loveliness, wealth and abundance. The red flowers symbolize love, the yellow ones stand for new opportunities and the white ones represent truth.

These dainty blooms are actually quite durable, and proper care can make them last for up to two weeks. Spray chrysanthemums are also known as pompons, and they are available in many forms and colors, including red, white, purple, pink, yellow, bronze and magenta.

Chrysanthemums or pompons are popular, festive flowers and are known to uplift moods and enhance any ambience. These flowers are a must-use on every florist’s list, and no eye-catching arrangement is complete without a liberal use of these fun and colorful blooms.
