What Are The Water Advantages Of Vertical Farming ?

Vertical farming is the future of farming. Several scientists believe that by the year 2050, majority of the world’s population will start living in urban areas. There will be tremendous need for food, and this could almost lead to a crisis.

The urban areas are also likely to expand more. So we need innovative and modern ideas to substitute farming requirements. In the natural environment, farming takes up huge amount of lands. It also uses up more water resources. The concept of urban farming can directly cut down the water requirements to very minimal standards. The plants will be using exactly the amount of water they need. Water will not be wasted and it will be saved for the usage of people. As the population increases the needs for water and other natural resources is also going to increase. So we are going to need more land to meet with the growing demands.

Today, most of the resources are used to growing and transporting the produce. When it comes to urban farming methods like vertical farming, the need for transportation gets minimized. Crops can be grown locally and also distributed immediately. There will be a constant cycle of demand and supply. People may question how can water be saved. Today, crops are supplied with more water than they need. Large acres of land have to be supplied with water for sustained farming. In the case of vertical farming only the plants are supplied with water and there is no soil to absorb the excess supply.
