First determine the size of the grow box and it depends on how many plants you would like to grow in there. There are several materials like wood, plastic, Rubbermaid and terracotta you can use to build these boxes. If you want to use wood, then go for something that lasts for a long time.
You will need to put in holes for drainage at the bottom of the container. The excess water drains out of these holes from the container. The excess water in the box can actually kill the plants and that is why you need an efficient drainage system for the plants. Also use a liner on the interior of the box. This helps the soil from draining and only the water goes away. A tissue cloth kind of material is good for drainage of excess water. The liner also protects the container from wearing out too soon. The container is not wet all the time, and the pests also stay out of the box.
You can grow anything in a grow box like an eggplant, beans and carrots. You can place it anywhere in your house by the window sill or any place like that.
